Here is a video that was made Austin Texas during the 90s.
My band was called "Pepto Dizmal" and I rocked out with my then girlfriend named Mary Cardin.
Our romance was a rocky, "rock star" trainwreck but we both learned from it.
She was my best friend's gal who took a shine to me.
I didn't know any better so I thought the only way we could be together is if I stole my friends car to steal his girlfriend and ran away with her to San Antonio.
It wasn't the first time I had three counties worth of cops chasing me across Texas but it was the first time being on the lamb with a friend on board.
I eventually returned the girl and car and after a long wait her family degraded to a point where they actually invited me to live with them.
I was soon the man of the house...the drunk of the house actually.
I think of her fondly once in a while...the song "Icon" was an ironic one because it along with a few other songs made us bigger rock stars then than we could handle.
We both became strung out A-holes, her on speed, me on booze.
The "Villains" in the video were actually the fellas who were keeping us grounded.
The last time I saw Mary, she was being loaded into an ambulance.
At that point Mary hated my guts and i was too stupid to realize what was happening.
I was so heart broken, the very next day i left town on foot with my guitar over my shoulder, no money,and very little sleeping gear.
My life sucked at that point.
I walked and cried, catching rides here and there.
Things were so rough back then, by the time I got to Arkansas my heart was still busted...Tennessee no better, I fell in with the meanest Christian homeless shelter I have ever seen, I had to jump out a window and run like hell to escape them...Nashville SUCKS!
I walked to Florida and my heart was still broken, by then it had been over a year.
Nowadays life is sweeter than ever, I'm sober, strong, my woman is AMAZING, smart full of passion and funny as the dickens. My kids are smart, wonderful elves and money hasn't been a problem in years.
I always tell Olive that she got the best version of me that any one has ever seen.
I can only hope Mary did as well in life.
