Check out this site. I am skeptical though this site is promoting it as a money making venture. I don't think it harms the bee in the process but the whole idea is messing with the balance of the bee world is dangerous. Bees are so important to our environment I would really educate your self on this to feel good about using the magic pollen sauce. It sounds silly but if one bee is harmed or Eco system fucked with it's not worth it. Just the Eco system of the cranberry alone is in danger as we speak and it's all because bees and pollen and balance. Bottom line no bees no beans. They are magical little creatures for sure.

hope this answers your question. Basically, you install a pollen "trap" on the hive that forces the bees to brush against it when they enter the hive and causes the pollen to fall from the bees' corbicula (isnt that a great word?) so you can collect it.

Collecting pollen from bees in some circles is considered controversial. It is indeed nature's perfect food...for baby bees. I don't doubt that humans can benefit from it, but as a beekeeper it is very important to make sure the bees have enough. Just like with honey, the bees usually collect more pollen than they need, so it's OK to take some from them in exchange for keeping them happy and healthy.

Store bee pollen in the refrigerator if you are going to use it! And don't give pollen collected by one hive to the bees of another hive...bee diseases can be spread that way.
